From Reality to Concept and Then Back to Reality

Building a brick oven in my parent's backyard was one of those things that you say you're going to do but never do. Typically, when I want to do something significant I endlessly think about it, sketch it, and change it and by the time that's all wrapped up something else in my life has changed putting that project on hold. Not this time. I wanted to get this done so bad I actually guessed at the size of the slab and then just starting pouring.

I thought if I just start construction then I have definitely have to finish. Definitely motivating, but definitely poor planning. We ended up winging a lot of the construction and figuring things out on the fly. Of course there are things I would've done differently but if I waited to have it all figured out then we wouldn't be eating pizza right now.

So, once we were about halfway through and we finished the actual oven, I decided to sketch this thing up to see how the face brick should look. A couple clicks with Google SketchUp and here we have it. From reality to concept to reality!
